The Story Behind GlowUp Digital Consultants: Why I Started and What’s Next

Launching GlowUp Digital Consultants has been a milestone I’ve dreamed about for years! After working across marketing, e-commerce, and content strategy for brands in Australia and North America, I wanted to create something that brought all my experience together. A business where strategy meets creativity and where small businesses can see real, measurable results without the big agency price tag.

Where It All Began

Hi, I’m Maddy! I’m a Sydney-based marketing and e-commerce strategist who’s always loved blending the creative and analytical sides of business. My passion for marketing started at the University of Wollongong, where I completed a double degree: a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Marketing) and a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in French). I graduated with distinction in both and was so ready to jump into the world of marketing!

Life in Canada (2019–2025)

Six months after graduating, I moved to Canada to experience life abroad in my twenties. But just one month after arriving in November 2019 (you can guess what’s coming), the pandemic hit! While working a temporary job at a cinema, I kept searching for marketing opportunities but was ready to move home due to all the uncertainty. Luckily, I landed a role as an Admin and Client Care Assistant at a Canadian skincare company. It was my first professional role post-uni and truly my saving grace! It was a fast-paced business where I wore about ten different hats. Within two years, I had worked my way up to Operations and Sales Specialist, where I loved learning the logistics and behind-the-scenes side of running a company. Staying organised and keeping things moving became second nature.

A year later, I stepped into a dual role as E-Commerce and Operations Manager. This gave me the chance to lead our marketing efforts and manage digital advertising, email marketing, social media, content creation, blog writing, influencer partnerships, UX updates, and even new product development.

I learned that I loved balancing the creative, marketing and operational sides of the business.

On the back end, I managed large incoming orders from both international and national manufacturers, coordinated inventory and warehouse logistics, and made sure products were received, processed, and shipped on time. On the front end, I planned campaigns, managed digital advertising, and created content that truly connected with our audience. Over time, I also led an international team and learned what really drives brand growth online.

Those experiences gave me a full-picture understanding of how marketing and operations work together and sparked my passion for helping other business owners grow their brands. I stayed with the company for more than five years and only left because it was time to move home to Australia!

Building Something of My Own (2023–Now)

Alongside my professional career, I built two passion projects: Uncovering Montreal, a travel blog with weekly posts that became a local go-to resource, and Uncovering with Mads, a travel and lifestyle content platform where I share daily content on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Pinterest.

From these projects, I learned so much about web design (especially WordPress), UGC content creation, scripting, video editing, photography, blog & content strategy, copy writing, branding, and audience growth. I worked hard to scale my personal brand from gifted to paid collaborations and have partnered with more than 30 brands including hotels like Fairmont and Hyatt, experiences like IMAX Sydney, Sydney Kayak Experience, and Big Bus Tours, and product brands like Dose Juice and Nutribullet.

These projects gave me hands-on experience in SEO, blog & content strategy, branding, and audience growth.

They also reminded me how rewarding it is to create something from scratch and watch it grow. It’s the same feeling I want my clients to experience when their marketing starts working for them!

Why I Started GlowUp Digital Consultants (2025 Onwards)

When I moved back home to beautiful Sydney and settled into the Sutherland Shire, I knew I wanted to build something that let me work across different industries and support multiple small businesses. I also wanted to help local business owners who were ready to take their marketing to the next level but didn’t want to commit to a full agency.

That’s when I decided to create GlowUp Digital Consultants - a flexible, full-stack, and freelance marketing solution designed to help businesses grow smarter.

GlowUp was born from a simple idea: marketing shouldn’t feel overwhelming or out of reach.

I’ve seen so many founders juggle freelancers, agencies, and DIY tools only to end up with disconnected strategies that don’t convert. My goal was to create a full-service solution that simplifies everything, from social media and SEO to email marketing, web design, and paid ads, all handled under one roof with clear communication and proven results. Every client is different, but what they have in common is ambition. They want to grow their business, elevate their online presence, and connect with their audience in a meaningful way.
